It’s up to the brothers how long they want to wear the rakhi. There are no specific restrictions or instructions relating to the time period during which rakhi must be worn in any scriptures. Brothers can either wear it till it gets torn or until the next rakhi when sisters replace old rakhi with the new ones.
But, there are certain things mentioned in various cultures regarding the time to wear rakhi.
- Under Hindu traditions, rakhi must be worn by brothers till the day of Krishna Janmashtami that comes after eight days of the festival.
- As per the customs in Maharashtra, a rakhi must be worn until the 15th day from the day of the Raksha Bandhan.
